A men only policy is a sexist and transphobic policy, no matter how you look at it. It may be true that a policy like this attempts to limit the bachelorette parties by straight women in gay bars, which can be unnerving sometimes, but a policy like this is used to justify the exclusion of ALL women, regardless of the situation, including: cis straight women, lesbians, and transwomen. Also, I have seen some pretty fucked up uses of power and privilege by GAY MEN in gay bars, directed against men and women. A male only space is NEVER a safe space, it can NEVER be, even for a lot of gay men. ALL MALE SPACE IS WOMYN’S SPACE. WOMYN, OF ALL KINDS, INHABIT YOUR LOCAL GAY BAR WITH A FEROCITY.

Former US President Jimmy Carter said this week, “Homosexuality was well known in the ancient world, well before Christ was born and Jesus never said a word about homosexuality. In all of his teachings about multiple things -– he never said that gay people should be condemned. I personally think it is very fine for gay people to be married…” President Carter was asked his opinion regarding biblical passages that would, for instance, forbid women from speaking in Church. He said “those passages were based on the social constructs of the time and were now antiquated”.
I have always had a soft spot for President Carter, I remember as a painfully shy kid thinking he was the only adult I would trust.
